Armchair removal is a single-item job and we treat it as one. Send a photo of the chair by email, say which room it is in, and we reply with a fixed price for taking it away. Two people arrive with a van, carry the chair out from wherever it sits and load it. The figure you were quoted is what you pay once the chair is on the van, with nothing added because of stairs or a tight hallway.

Every type of armchair is covered. Wingbacks with tall backs, rocking chairs on curved runners, tub chairs, club chairs and electric riser recliner chairs that lift the sitter to their feet all count as armchairs on this page. A riser recliner weighs more than it looks because of the motor and steel frame underneath, so mention it in your email. If the chair matches a 3 seater sofa or a 2 seater that is also going, put both in the picture and one price covers the pair.

Armchairs are often the piece that gets left behind. The sofa goes, the chair stays because it seemed small enough to sort out later, and it is still there a year on. Councils generally offer a bulky waste collection, but it is booked ahead with a wait and the chair has to be put outside on a set day. We collect from the room the chair is in and aim for same-day or next-day collection wherever possible. An email early in the morning gives you the best chance of a slot that day.

Sofa Removal is registered with the Environment Agency as an upper tier waste carrier, licence number CBDU526130, and we will tell you where the chair ended up if you ask. A chair in good condition with its fire safety label still attached can be passed on for reuse, and our guide on why charities refuse sofas without fire labels explains what that label means. A recliner sofa or a footstool going at the same time can be added to the same email.

How an armchair collection works

  1. Send a photo

Take a picture of the armchair where it stands and email it to us, or use the form on this page. One line about the room and the floor is enough.

  2. Get one price

We reply with a single fixed price for carrying the chair out, loading it and disposing of it. That figure does not change on the day.

  3. Book a slot

Tell us when you are in and we book it. Same-day and next-day slots are offered wherever possible.

  4. Pay when loaded

Two people carry the chair out and lift it onto the van. You pay the quoted price once it is on board and nothing before.

Why people use us

Licensed to carry it

Our upper tier waste carrier licence is CBDU526130 and it is registered with the Environment Agency. You can check it before you book.

Insured in your home

The crew is covered by public liability insurance up to £5 million and employers' liability of £10 million while they are carrying the chair through your house.

Small jobs taken seriously

One armchair gets the same two-person crew and the same fixed price process as a full suite. More than 500 jobs have been completed this way.

Reuse before recycling

A sound chair with its fire label is passed on where possible. The rest is broken down at a licensed transfer station, and 90% of what we collect is recycled.

How an armchair comes out of the house

An armchair is awkward in a different way to a sofa. It is not long, but it is deep and wide at the same time, and a wingback adds height on top. Standard doorways and the turn at the top of a staircase are where it catches. Two people carry it tilted, one taking the back and one the front, so the widest part goes through the opening on an angle rather than square on. A rocking chair is carried with the runners clear of the walls and the floor. The crew works out the route when they see the chair, so you do not need to measure anything.

Riser recliner chairs need one extra step. The crew unplugs the chair at the wall, unclips the transformer and cable from the underside and takes those away with the chair. The motor and steel lifting frame stay inside, which is what makes these chairs heavy, and that is why two people carry every one of them. Before we arrive, take the seat cushion off if it is loose, check down the sides for anything that has slipped under the arms and leave the plug reachable.

After collection a chair that is still sound and carries its permanent fire safety label is passed on for reuse where we can. Anything else goes to a licensed waste transfer station, where the timber or steel frame, the foam and the fabric are separated. Upholstered chairs may contain persistent organic pollutants, so they are kept apart from general waste and sent for incineration with energy recovery at a permitted facility rather than landfill.

Armchair removal questions

Will you collect just one armchair?

Yes. A single chair is a normal job for us and it still gets two people and a van. Email a photo and you get a fixed price for that one chair.

Can you take an electric riser recliner chair?

Yes. The crew unplugs it, removes the transformer and cable and carries the chair out with the motor still inside. It is heavier than an ordinary armchair, so say that it is a riser recliner in your email and we price it properly first time.

The armchair is upstairs and the staircase turns. Can you still get it out?

Send a photo of the chair and, if you can, one of the staircase. Two people carry it tilted to get the widest part round the turn. If anything about the route needs a different approach, we will tell you before the day rather than on it.

Do I need to do anything before you arrive?

Very little. Lift off any loose seat cushion, check for coins or keys down the sides and make sure the route to the door is clear of rugs and small furniture. If the chair is electric, leave the plug where the crew can reach it.

What happens to the armchair after you collect it?

If it is in good condition and the fire safety label is still on it, we try to pass it on for reuse. If not, it goes to a licensed waste transfer station to be broken down with the frame, foam and fabric sorted. We can give you a waste transfer note for it on request.

Can I add the armchair to a sofa collection?

Yes, and it is the easiest way to do it. Put the chair and the sofa in the same photo, or send two pictures in one email, and we send one price that covers everything. The crew takes it all in a single visit.
