Sofa bed removal is heavier work than it looks. The folding steel mechanism inside a sofa bed weighs far more than the cushions around it, so even a small two-seat model needs two people to lift it safely. That is why every sofa bed collection we do is a two-person job with a van. Email us a photo, we send back a fixed price, and the crew carries it out of the room, down the stairs if there are any, and onto the van.
The bed section goes with it. The fold-out frame and the pad that sits on it are part of the sofa bed, so they travel in the same van and are covered by the same price. You do not need to separate the frame from the seat, lift the pad off or fold anything away before the crew gets there. If you have a 3 seater sofa or a corner sofa going on the same day, put it in the photo and we quote for the lot.
A sofa bed is one of the hardest things to get rid of on your own. It is too heavy for one person, too bulky for a car and, as our guide on whether a sofa can go in a skip explains, not something a skip is the obvious answer for either. The council bulky collection means booking ahead and leaving it outside on the set day. We take it from the room it is in, and same-day or next-day collection is offered wherever possible.
We hold an upper tier waste carrier licence, number CBDU526130, with the Environment Agency. Once the sofa bed is collected we can tell you where it went and send a waste transfer note if you want one. The steel frame is separated for metal recycling at the transfer station, and our guide to what happens to your sofa after collection covers the rest. A recliner sofa going at the same time can be added to the same email.

One fixed price from your photo
Email a picture, get a price for the whole job, pay once it is on the van. If anything looks different from the photo when we arrive, we tell you before we lift it.

Get a fixed price
We reply with one figure that covers the carrying, the loading, the bed section and the disposal. It does not go up when the crew feels the weight.

Choose a day
Pick a slot that suits and we confirm it. Email early in the morning for the best chance of collection that day.
-
Pay once it is on the van
Two people fold the mechanism shut, carry the sofa bed out and load it. You pay the quoted price when it is on board.
Why people use us
Built for heavy lifts
Every collection is done by two people with a van, so a sofa bed is lifted by the frame and carried, never dragged down the stairs or pushed across the floor.
Covered while we carry it
We carry public liability insurance up to £5 million and employers' liability of £10 million, which matters when steel frames are being moved past walls and banisters.
Experience you can count
More than 15 years of doing this and over 500 completed jobs mean the crew has met every kind of sofa bed mechanism. We are rated 5 stars on Google.
Frames recycled, not dumped
The steel mechanism is separated for metal recycling at a licensed transfer station. Across everything we collect, 90% is recycled.
Why a sofa bed takes two people even when it is small
The weight of a sofa bed sits in the middle, in the folded steel frame, not at the ends where you would naturally grip it. Lift one end and the whole thing wants to fold open. That is why the crew first makes sure the mechanism is fully closed and held shut, then lifts from the base with one person at each end, keeping the sofa bed level so the frame stays put. On stairs it is carried with the heavier end lower and the person at the top controlling the descent.
Before we arrive, fold the bed away if it is open and leave it as a sofa. Take off the loose cushions and look in the gap where the frame folds, because that is where remote controls, socks and coins end up. Clear the route to the door of anything that could be caught by a corner of the frame. If the mechanism is broken and will not close, say so in your email and send a photo of it as it is, and the crew will secure it before they move it.
The bed section and its pad are collected as part of the sofa bed and go on the same van. At the licensed waste transfer station the steel frame is pulled out for metal recycling and the timber, foam and fabric are sorted separately. Upholstered items like these may contain persistent organic pollutants, so they are kept away from general waste and go for incineration with energy recovery at a permitted facility instead of landfill. A sofa bed that still works and keeps its fire safety label can be passed on for reuse.

Sofa bed removal questions
Do I need to take the bed section out before you come?
No. The fold-out frame and the pad on it are part of the sofa bed and we take them with it. Leave it folded shut as a sofa and the crew does the rest.
It is only a small two-seat sofa bed. Do you still send two people?
Yes, always. The metal mechanism makes even a compact sofa bed heavy and unbalanced, and lifting it alone is how backs get hurt and banisters get broken. Two people and a van come to every job.
The mechanism is stuck open. Can you still take it?
Send a photo of it as it is and we will tell you. The crew can usually secure a mechanism that will not close before carrying it out. Mention it in the email so the price and the plan are right from the start.
Can a sofa bed go in a skip instead?
Lifting a steel-framed sofa bed over the side of a skip is a job in itself, and upholstered seating is often kept separate from mixed waste anyway. Our guide on whether a sofa can go in a skip goes through the detail. We carry it out of the room and that is the end of it for you.
What happens to the metal frame?
At the licensed waste transfer station the steel mechanism is separated from the timber, foam and fabric and goes for metal recycling. We can tell you where the sofa bed went and provide a waste transfer note if you ask for one.
Can you collect a sofa bed from an upstairs flat with no lift?
Send a photo of the sofa bed and a note about the floor and the stairs. Two people carry it down with the heavy end kept low, and the price we send already allows for the route you describe. Nothing is added on the day for the stairs.
Send a photo of the sofa bed for a fixed price
Email it to hello@sofa-removal.co.uk or use the form above. We reply with one price for the whole sofa bed, frame and bed section included.
